Business The Background

India, one of the world’s largest producers of plastic waste, generates approximately 1 lakh metric tonnes of solid waste daily, amounting to a staggering 62 million metric tonnes annually. Faced with this growing crisis, ReCircle’s founders envisioned a way to disrupt the recycling sector by constructing a traceable, transparent supply chain. Their mission? To build an efficient waste management infrastructure that not only helps brands meet Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance but also supports their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Challenge

ReCircle needed a comprehensive digital solution to streamline the entire waste supply chain from waste collection to recycling and certification. The platform required integration across multiple stakeholders, including brands, collection partners, processing facilities, and ReCircle’s administrative team. Each stakeholder had unique roles to play in the recycling process, and the system needed to

• Automate and digitize processes to improve efficiency and support scalability.
  

• Integrate with multiple entities to establish seamless work-flows (Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology for document and vehicle number scanning).
  

• Provide traceability and transparency in the waste management process. Feature a complete audit trail from the source the waste is collected, transit from the collection to recycling facilities and recycled plastics converted to digital certificates. The journey of the complete waste cycle management handled in a single platform.
  

• Deliver a user-friendly mobile app for collection partners. To operate in the Field capturing the Plastic waste journey.
  

• Ensure the secure storage and verification of sensitive personal data in the cloud as part of the KYC purpose.
  

• Offer full visibility into each stage of the recycling process. From Plastic recycling request from brands to Assigning orders to collection partners specific to the region and the complete.
  

Solution

ReCircle partnered with Zaigo to bring this vision to life. The first step was a deep dive into ReCircle’s goals, business requirements, scope, and workflows. With that understanding, Zaigo developed a solution that transformed the recycling process into a seamless, automated workflow.

Key Solutions Implemented

Onboarding Automation: Seamless and frictionless onboarding of different entities Brands, Collection partners and recyclers Self registration and User assisted.

Order Request: Very simple form fill to place order digitally from the platform by Brands for requesting plastic credits along with certification.

Order Processing: Admins can sort and auto-assign orders to various collection partners based on location, material type and quantity through the backend system.

Order Management: Manage the complete order progress and stage of the order and the total plastic recycled against an order and the quantity yet to be full filled. Certificate issues against the order quantity fulfilled. Track all the orders centrally from a centralized platform.

OCR Technology Integration: Zaigo implemented OCR capabilities to capture information from paper documents and vehicle number plates, translating this data into the system's database. This eliminated manual data entry and sped up processes.

Real-Time Transparency: Zaigo developed a ledger system within the platform that provided ReCircle’s admin with real-time insights into the amount of plastic waste being recycled. This enhanced transparency, enabling better decision-making.

Custom Map Interface: The platform's map feature allowed ReCircle's admin to view collection partners and facilities across India, facilitating more efficient resource management based on geographic location.

User-Friendly Mobile App: A mobile application was built specifically for collection partners, designed to be intuitive and easy to use, enabling them to track and manage loads efficiently while receiving instant push notifications for updates.

Secure Data Verification: Sensitive data, such as personal and vehicle identification information, was verified using third-party APIs, ensuring that all data stored within the platform remained secure and compliant with regulations.

End-to-End Process Management: All stakeholders were given access to update the status of tasks, from assigning purchase orders to obtaining compliance certificates, ensuring visibility at every stage.

Role-Based Access Control (RBC): The platforms architecture follows a dynamic role -based access control model, which allows flexibility, security and authenticity. Only stakeholders with relevant permissions can access specific features and functions tied to their roles, preventing unauthorized access to restricted functionalities.

Vehicle and Waste Management: The solution optimizes the supply chain by enabling stakeholders to manage vehicles and waste collection efficiently. Collection partners, using either the web or mobile app, can initiate the loading, dispatching, and unloading of waste at plastic waste manufacturing facilities, generating certificates. This system improves transparency and provides real-time tracking for the admin.

Content Localization: The platform is bilingual, supporting both English and Hindi, enhancing accessibility and improving the overall user experience.

Analytical Data: The application delivers in-depth insights for collection partners, brands, and plastic waste processors. Admins can monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and make data-driven decisions for better management and performance.
