About The Client

Winpack Ventures is a manufacturer of corrugated boxes. They are partners of top brands including Flipkart and Amazon supporting multiple brands with their packaging solutions.

Project Background

The goal of the project is to understand the existing process followed by Winpack team and propose a solution using technology that could automate the complex process, support clear planning and scheduling for production, identify areas of improvement using data, and build efficiency, to achieve the strategic goals.

After an initial discovery and thorough analysis on how the business operations operate, Zaigo proposed a solution to automate the complete work-flow from planning to production and dispatch.

Goal

Build a solution for different stakeholders for easy accessibility of the platform for the team members.

Web Application: For production managers.

Mobile App: For the managing director and plant manager.

Tablet App: For employees/workers.

TV App: For viewing statuses.

Project Timeline

The overall timeframe for the development of the project was 4 months.

Challenges

  • Employee Tracking
    Tracking and monitoring of employees within the manufacturing plant.

  • Biometric Device Integration
    Integrating employee activity data from the existing 3rd party biometric device and able to view the status of all the team members present inside the production floor and outside the production floor.

  • IP-based Restriction
    Preventing employees from logging in outside the manufacturing location and restricting access based on IP.

  • Real-time Status Update
    Ensuring transparency of job sequences from start to finish, allowing employees to view and update production job statuses easily.

  • Auto Synchronization
    Ensuring automatic synchronization of data from the biometric device to the Winpack application.

Solution Delivered

  • Understanding Business Challenges
    Zaigo visited the manufacturing plant to understand critical challenges, pain points, and inefficiencies in the existing process. R&D was conducted to provide a feasible solution, resulting in the development of web, mobile, tablet, and TV apps. The proposed solution automated the existing process, allowing for clear planning of the production and jobs to be allocated to employees on time, and enabling employees to update their status, which could be viewed by other employees and top management, ensuring transparency and visibility throughout the complete team across different departments.

  • Employee Monitoring
    Zaigo proposed using existing biometric devices in the manufacturing plant. When employees punched out or exited the designated workplace, they were marked as away, which helped in keenly monitoring employees and enhancing productivity and also view the total productive hours within the production area.

  • Biometric Device Integration
    Integrating data from the biometric device was challenging due to third-party dependencies and required research and support from the biometric provider. A proof of concept (POC) was conducted with a device installed at Zaigo, where the device setup code and configuration to push data to the server were examined. The setup worked well, but manual push/refresh was needed initially. By working along with the biometric device vendor and building a custom API to, automatic data synchronization was achieved, making the integration successful.

  • Tablet App Development
    The tablet app allowed employees to update their job status, which was visible to employees in other departments and management officials, providing transparency and tracking, and addressing key challenges faced by the client.

  • IP-based Login
    Zaigo whitelisted the IPs for user login. Suppose a user logged in from a non-whitelisted IP, an OTP/confirmation would be sent to the managing director for approval. If the IP was whitelisted, employees could log in without issues.
